Perfect Imperfection

I tried to buy a pair of jeans today that were designed to fit a mannequin.
“Do you have any blues that could fit, say, Marilyn Monroe?”
A girl with a boyish figure glared, “Ma’am, try Macy’s ‘cause I don’t know.”
I don’t know!
Chorus:
I hate it when blue skies are covered behind rose-colored glasses,
Because imperfect perfection is what I crave today
I don’t need rose-colored glasses to tell me I live in heaven because it comes down to earth when I am in your arms.
… Perfect Imperfection
On the cover of a magazine it says “Swimming Suit Solutions”…
“Hide your imperfections by choosing the right choices for your body type”.
Inside…blemish-free boys and girls and I can hardly tell the difference in their perfect world…what a perfect World?!
Chorus:
I hate it when blue skies are covered behind rose-colored glasses,
Because imperfect perfection is what I crave today
I don’t need rose-colored glasses to tell me I live in heaven because it comes down to earth when I am in your arms.
(… Perfect Imperfection)
Musical Bridge
Everybody’s lookin’ for that Nip/Tuck
Even all those desperate housewives
But what goes up must come down, even if supported by silicone.
Leave my breasts alone!

52nd Street

Walkin’ down one street in town
At work, at home, at play
Bitterness comes home to roost,
Injustice shoots my faith,
Standin’ on the corner waiting for the light to change.
Looking for a detour sign,
Gotta’ leave this place
Always on 52nd Street,
Never on Broadway.
Always on 52nd Street,
Never in L.A.
Don’t look back.
It’s why she turned to salt.
Don’t look back.
You’ll be stuck right where you walk.
Don’t look back
Or you’ll always be on 52nd Street.
Walkin’ down one street in town
Day after day after day.
Mistakes haunting my every move
And I long to fade away.
Lying in my bed at night Corporate salt in every wound.
Looking for a new physician.
Gotta’ find a cure.
Always on 52nd Street,
Never on Broadway.
Always on 52nd Street,
Never in L.A.
Don’t look back.
It’s why she turned to salt.
Don’t look back.
You’ll be stuck right where you walk.
Don’t look back
Or you’ll always be on 52nd Street.
Repeat Chorus and ride out
Lonely For Two
By Glenn Greenberg, © 2003
She said, “you’re such a lonely man,
Lonely and afraid of being alone.”
He said, “How in this world did you know?”
“You keep your friends at a distance,
where they know just what they see.
Can’t you summon up the courage to be free?”
Oh Oh.
“Did it start with a heartache, did you build a wall inside?
Do you find that it’s not much fun to hide?”
Chorus:
Lonely for two, lonely enough for three.
We got ‘nough blues to go around
Lonely for two, will you take a chance with me
And together we can be
Lonely for two.
He said, “you’re such a lonely girl,
lonely and afraid to loose control.
Proud to have your independence show.
And everybody wants to know you.
‘Cause your smile lights up the room.
But when you turn the key at midnight
You’re alone. Oh, oh, oh.
Did it start with a heartache,
Does that smile just hide a wall?
Is it time to take a chance and fall?”
Chorus
Bridge:
What’s the point if you can’t trust someone
To love you as you are?
It’s so sad if you heart refuses
To run the risk of another scar.
Lonely for two,
Lonely for me and you, We got enough blues to go around
Lonely for two
Would you slip your hand in mine?
Together we’d be lonely for two
Together we’d be lonely for two.
Lonely for two
Waiting For My Conviction
Words and Music by Kathy Smock and Franni Burke

You found my diary, Read each Line. Do you judge me like I do?
Did you get the meaning? Did you understand? Did you read it all the way through?
Do you need a dagger? Go collect your reward. Though the pen is mightier than the sword.
Chorus:
Waiting for my conviction for my crimes. Waiting for some judgement my whole life. Waiting for my conviction. Go on and stand in line. Couldn’t be as bad as mine.
Do you see a pattern in these lines? History repeating itself.
Go away I hate you, but I’m afraid to loose you more, so afraid to live without your help.
Tear out the pages, erase these lines, remove these feelings of mine.
Chorus 2x’s
Don’t Sing at The Table
Lyrics by Leslie Clemmons
Music by Leslie & Rod Clemmons

I sang along with the radio every chance I got.
My 45’s would save me when the shouting went up.
I sang in my room, sang in the shower, sang for the guests
To make mom proud, I would sing any time, anywhere,
But there was one place I could not.
Chorus: Don’t sing at the table, you’re not allowed.
Eat what I put on your plate and
Get off of your cloud.
Don’t sing at the table, you’re not allowed.
I sang along with the radio every chance I got.
‘Till the DJ’s couldn’t play what
Wall St. would not.
There’s not a shadow of a doubt
In my own house I can sing at my table
My crazy man is able the conversation is music,
Not how the suits abuse it.
Chorus: Don’t sing at the table, you’re not allowed.
Eat what I put on your plate and
Get off of your cloud.
Don’t sing at the table, you’re not allowed.
I sing along with the radio every chance I get,
But my radio is tuned to Triple A.
I don’t swim in the mainstream at least not yet
‘Cause my music lives on the Internet,
They wouldn’t let me sing at their table,
But on NPR I’m able.
Chorus: Don’t sing at my table, you’re not allowed.
Eat up all your processed food and
Get off of my cloud.
Don’t sing at the table, you’re not allowed.
Yeah, I know the rules of the house,
Pay to play is not my style.
You forced me to eat your processed food,
And now my butt’s too wide, to fit
In your Simon’s idol box,
By the way, I am too old and my love for commercial Radio
Has just grown cold.
Chorus: Don’t sing at my table, you’re not allowed.
Eat up all your processed food and
Get off of my cloud.
Don’t sing at my table, you’re not allowed.
It’s an all you can eat Indie buffet, got our own clear channel now.
Don’t sing at the table, you’re not allowed,
Don’t sing at the table.
Black Cat
Lyrics by Leslie Clemmons

Dark cold rain on her window pain
Everyone is smiling
Blackest of clouds above her head
Everywhere else it’s shining
Fits of rage burn in her heart at the clerk’s hello
What’d he mean by that? Next time I see him tell him where to go.
And the tears fall at her disappearance
And the tears fall every time she prays
And the tears fall from her enemy’s eyes
Every time she turns to walk away
Every time she turns to walk away.
Black cat strolling across the street
Fear starts running
She’s seen that look in that Cat’s eyes
And she knows what’s coming.
No matter what she says or what she does
She’s breaking eggshells.
Black Cat leaves everyone she loves
Drags her thru hell.
Chorus
Bridge:
Baby, I love you. Believe me, I love you.
See me for who I am. I’ll save you from yourself.
Chorus 2x’s
And the tears fall at her disappearance
And the tears fall every time she prays
And the tears fall from her enemy’s eyes
Every time she turns to walk away
Every time she turns.
Know One Thing
Lyrics by Leslie Clemmons

Life is painful, life is a song
Sometimes I think I’m right when I’m wrong,
But I know one thing, I got you babe.
I just know one thing
I got you babe.
Life is bad and life is good, but
I wouldn’t change it if I could
‘Cause of just one thing: I got you babe.
I know just one thing
I got you babe.
I don’t have the perfect job, and
Sometimes I’d rather be feeding the hogs
But I know one thing
I got you babe
Only know one thing
I got you babe
I got you and you got me, and
We’re as happy as we can be, and
We may only have the Christmas tree, but
I got you and, sugar, you got me babe
I got you babe.
Sometimes I feel I just can’t go on.
Certain I can’t sing one more song
There is just one thing that keeps me rehearsin’
I know just one thing
You make it worth it.
Life is bad and life is good, but
I wouldn’t change it if I could
‘Cause of just one thing: I got you babe.
I know just one thing
I got you babe.
Like My Mother Said
~Lyrics and Music by Kathy Smock

my mother says insanity runs in the family and the women are slightly off
but I just think she's being dramatic and slightly over the top
my sister , she called me the other day and said the strangest thing.
said she's feeling older then she did before and she's afraid what that might bring
chorus....sometimes she can't help herself but to go dancing in the nude
sometimes she awakes to find herself howling at the moon, whats' a girl to do....It's like my mother said
Yesterday I found myself walking on the beach. I saw my reflection in the waves and I was doing the strangest thing.
So much for this self control , who am I trying to kid. I felt my youth slip away and I let it go
Chorus.. sometimes I can't help myself but to go dancing in the nude, sometimes I awake to find myself howling at the moon...what's a girl to do, it's like my mother says
Forgive You
Music & Lyrics by Leslie Clemmons

It’s hard to digest this sorrow.
Sits in my stomach, in my chest, on my bitter tongue.
My heart is sick, my mind is numb,
Tell me, will this pain be gone?
Will the long robes of priests help me now?
Will the incense burn into my heart?
Will the bells ring out songs of forgiveness?
Or will you hold me captive by the hatred in my heart?
Chorus: Forgive you? Is that what you ask of me?
Forgive you? What will it take?
Forgive you? Is there a choice?
Forgive you or hate?
My innocence is taken for a second time.
What I fought so hard to regain, oh please tell me
Something to do, some name to scream,
To take away my shame.
Chorus
Bridge: It’s hard to tell which way is up,
Darkness falling on fear, despair
I can’t get past this, my dear.
Anger comes in to wake me.
I did not give you the right to take me, oh please tell me
Why did you destroy my love?
How to separate you from what you do?
Chorus and ride out.
Don't Let Them Take Your Blues Away
Lyrics by Leslie Clemmons
Music by Leslie Clemmons and Eric B. Davis

Lady Creole, Lady French, Lady Spanish, Lady Day of the river..
Don't Let them take your blues away; don't let them wipe your face too clean, don't let them pour out all the bleech and wipe the color from your scene.
Don't Let them take your blues away, Don't let them wipe your face too clean. Keep the blend in all your spice. Don't let them kill your spirit twice or gentrify your scene.
Bring your babies to your arms! Don't let them sweep away the wrongs. You will rise up with the moon, blow your horn, sing out your tune, keep your rhythm attitude.
Don't let them take your blues away...
(Lady Creole, Lady French, Lady Spanish, Lady Day of the river..)Don't let them take your blues away. Let the saints come march on in, march till the second line joins you in a smile to make the blues come home.
Don't let them take your blues away. They make you who you are. You will sing again. Don't let them take away your song.
